Hi my name is Mike Bernier. I’m 14 years old. I’ve participated in the NFL Punt, Pass, & Kick program for the past three years. It’s been a fun but a challenging journey. During my first year, I went on to win 2nd place in Atlanta, Georgia. The Georgia Dome was amazing! During my second year with the Punt, Pass & Kick program, I was diagnosed with a Type 1 Diabetes. This was very shocking and unexpected news for me. I knew I had Mt. Everest in front of me to climb. No matter how tall the obstacle may be or how tough the journey may get, I was ready to fight. A week after being diagnosed and after losing 20 pounds, I competed in the Punt, Pass & Kick. Although I lost the competition, I did not give up!
This year I have competed and won first place at the local and sectional competition, and I hope my scores are good enough to advance to the team championship in Atlanta, Georgia. If not, there is always next year. Thank you for giving us the Punt Pass & Kick Program.
